Man fatally shot by Riverdale police

Once again another unarmed black male shot by police while sitting in his vehicle. No weapon.
A man was shot dead by a Riverdale police officer in an area of town police say is known for gang and drug activity.
Brandon Harper, 23, of Riverdale, was killed in the shooting, Riverdale police said in a news release.
The shooting happened about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the 14500 block of Michigan Avenue as a Riverdale police officer observed three people in a car, police said. The area is known for narcotics and gangs, police said.
The officer got out of his car to speak to the three people and asked them to show their hands several times. When the driver of the car refused the officer, "in fear for his life," fired one shot, striking the driver, police said.
Harper was pronounced dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey at 12:18 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Illinois State Police and the Cook County State's Attorney's Public Integrity Task Force are investigating the shooting.
